5 Helpful Tips to Power Wash Concrete

Use these simple 5 tips to improve your curb appeal and show everyone what they’re missing with clean, bright concrete.

Tip 1: Spray Off Any Loose Dirt and Debris

To get down to the tough dirt and grime use a normal 45 degree angled nozzle with your power washer to get rid of anything on the surface. If you don’t have a powerwasher, find your most generous neighbor (hopefully he’s the one with the good machine) and borrow it for a few hours.

Tip 2: Use a Concrete Specific Cleaner

WAIT! Before you skip this step hear me out. Is this project possible without the extra cost of power washing concrete cleaner? Yes, yes it is, but it is definitely more difficult. I tried it both with and without the special cleaner and using the cleaner made the job go so much faster and easier.

That being said, using the soap nozzle and spray the concrete cleaner on to the concrete and wait the appropriate amount of time suggested by the cleaner you’re using.

Tip 3: Use a Concrete Attachment

If you don’t have an attachment specifically for cleaning concretes and decks STOP and go buy one. They come in all different shapes, sizes and price ranges. Paired with the concrete cleaner, the job goes so much faster than using the small angled nozzle.

Tip 4: Clean the Cracks Well

After you have cleaned the bulk of the flat surface with the attachment using the smaller 45 degree nozzle to get into the deep cracks and then rinse all the remaining dirt and debris away.

Tip 5: Take your time

As tempting as it is to rush and get it done isn’t worth it. I found that taking your time with the concrete attachment creates much better results. I actually saved time by going slower and making sure that I cleaned as I went so I didn’t have to go back and touch up the spots I missed.  I guess they always say slow and steady wins the race.

Power washing is super easy and can make your concrete look brand new! Try it out and let me know what you think. Happy cleaning.
